Ancient Apothecary Fermented Mushrooms are powered by fermentation—our own proprietary, patent-pending, dual-stage, live fermentation process.

What is fermentation and why is it important?

Fermentation is an ancient process used to break down food into more absorbable components.

Here are some key benefits of fermentation:

  • Fermentation pre-digests nutrients and beneficial compounds into more accessible and bioavailable forms.
  • In some instances, fermentation can actually make certain foods more edible and more digestible, such as roots, leaves, nuts, tubers, seeds and grains.
  • Fermentation can increase the presence of probiotics in the food.

Each Ancient Apothecary Mushroom formula is infused with Organic Essential Oils and CO2 extracts.

The Power of Essential Oils

Essential oils are often referred to as the “life blood” of plants and trees. They are the concentrated oils of herbs, plants and trees.

For example, it takes approximately 3,000 lemons to make one kilo of lemon essential oil, while one 15mL bottom of lemon essential oil takes about 75 lemons! To go deeper, there are nearly 300 drops in a 15mL bottle, so 1 drop of lemon essential oil is made by using ¼ of a whole lemon!

Likewise, 150 pounds of lavender is necessary for just one pound of pure lavender essential oil, while one 15mL bottle of lavender oil requires 27 square feet of lavender plants. With approximately 300 drops of lavender oil in a 15mL bottle, one drop equals nearly .09 square feet of lavender plants.

The bottom line: here’s a whole lot of beneficial plant life in essential oils.

These precious oils can be distilled or extracted using CO2 and bottled, and when steam distilled, essential oils keep the “frequency” that they had when they resided in the plant.

Additionally, essential oils provide lipo-soluble fractions of plants. Since plants contain both water- and fat-soluble active compounds, we believe it is important to consume a full spectrum of beneficial compounds. Fats and oils are beneficial for the effective delivery of key antioxidant compounds.

Therefore, essential oils infused into herbal formulas can help serve as a delivery system for botanicals.

Here’s the takeaway: Essential oils are some of Nature’s wonders!

That’s why you’ll find essential oils in each and every Ancient Apothecary Fermented Mushrooms.

The Importance of Organic Mushrooms

It’s no secret that in conventionally grown plants, farmers often use a variety of pesticides, herbicides, fungicides synthetic fertilizers and many other “processing agents” which often remain in and on the food or herbs. Even washing these foods or herbs can’t get many of these off the produce.

Why? Because nearly 20 percent of the 17,000 (or more) pesticides in use today are known as systemic pesticides—those which reside inside the plant via its root system and have permeated the plant. That’s means they’re everywhere within the plants themselves and can’t be washed off.

To try to avoid these chemicals in and on our food, many people choose to go organic. That reason alone is enough to make going organic is all the rage these days.

But another important benefit of organic food and herbs is that, because they’re grown organically, these plants are often able to produce their own natural defenses against pests.

As a result, these plants can have some of the very compounds and natural defenses that we can and often should include in our diet.

That’s why you’ll find these health-supporting organic mushrooms in each and every Ancient Apothecary Fermented Mushrooms.

PLUS, each Ancient Apothecary Mushroom formula features an Organic Fermented Warming Botanical Blend of black pepper, ginger, long pepper and sprouted cumin.

In Ayurveda, black pepper, long pepper and ginger are tied to the Sanskrit word trikatu, meaning three spices or three peppers. Trikatu is an Ayurvedic blend of the fruits of black pepper, long pepper and the rhizomes of ginger.

Each Ancient Apothecary Fermented Mushroom formula also features an Organic Fermented Bitter Botanical Blend of milk thistle, dandelion and peppermint.

Bitter botanicals or “bitters” are historically regarded as beneficial.

By combining organic fermented botanicals, whole organic herbs and spices, hot water herbal extracts and lipo-soluble fractions, Ancient Apothecary Fermented Mushroom formulas feature a full-spectrum infusion of the best that Nature has to offer!

Multiple Mushrooms Benefits

Some of the beneficial compounds in these mushrooms include polysaccharides and polysaccharide peptides, beta glucans, glycoproteins and triterpenes. Take a look:

Polysaccharides and Polysaccharide Peptides

Polysaccharides are carbohydrate structures which produce a long chain of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen cells. What’s most interesting is that, nutritionally, polysaccharides are digested by and used by the body as potential energy sources, but have a low glycemic index.

Beta glucans

As a group of glucose polysaccharides naturally occurring in the cell walls of fungi, bacteria, yeasts and more, beta glucans are natural immune system supporters.† The body doesn’t produce beta-glucans, so they have to come through the diet, including certain beneficial mushrooms, such as those found in Multi Mushroom Complex.

Glycoproteins are just what they sound like: molecules which have sugar and protein bonded together. You must get them from your diet because the body can’t produce them.

Triterpenes are a group of terpenes—a large and diverse class of organic compounds—found in plant gums and resins. Triterpenes have antioxidant properties, and help support healthy immune system function.†

The Importance of a Healthy Immune System

Our built-in system to ward off the unhealthy microorganisms and foreign invaders we continually come into contact with—our immune system—is always on call. Its first line of defense and duty is to block the invasion of these unwanted critters.

The immune system is the body’s system to keep us healthy, protecting the body from outside microbial and other threats. And, of course, we come into contact with various microbes—good and bad—each day via the air we breathe, fluids we drink, food we eat and environments or people we come into contact with.

So, what guards us? A healthy immune system.

Thank goodness for our immune systems!

Of course, there are a lot of variables that affect how well the immune system functions, including dietary and lifestyle habits, such as sleep, stress and more, so we have to take care of ourselves overall.

Everyone’s immune system is different, of course, but one thing is for certain: a healthy immune system is necessary for optimal health.

Turkey Tail Mushroom

For thousands of years, Eastern cultures have revered mushrooms’ health benefits, while also being celebrated as a source of powerful nutrients. Mushrooms are fungi, which are so distinct in nature that they are classified as their own kingdom—separate from plants or animals.

There are approximately 140,000 species of mushroom-forming fungi in the world, but science is familiar with only approximately 10%, while only 100 species or so are being studied for their potential health benefits.

Turkey tail mushroom is one of them. Known as Trametes versicolor, “Turkey Tail” mushroom is often referred to as “the turkey tail” mushroom due to its variety of colors and its resemblance to the tail feathers of a wild turkey—often in brown, cinnamon, buff or reddish-brown colors, but with varying colors, as well. It also goes by Coriolis, or “cloud mushroom.”

Known as bracket fungi, it forms thin, leather-looking and leaf-like fungi in circular fashion. Turkey tail mushroom helps support a healthy immune defense,† and has a long history of beneficial uses in Asia, Europe and indigenous people in North America.

Reishi Mushroom

Scientifically known as Ganoderma lucidum, “reishi” is the name by which these beneficial mushrooms are known in Japan, but they’re called “lingzhi” mushrooms in China. No matter what they’re called, they have a collection of compounds, including antioxidants, beta glucans, triterpenes, alkaloids, sterols and a variety of  polysaccharides.

Reishi can also support healthy immune system function.†

Shiitake Mushroom

In Japanese, shiitake literally means tree (“shii”) mushroom (“take’), referring to the tree on which these amazing mushrooms originally grew.

Lion’s Mane Mushroom

Similar to the other mushrooms selected for the Fermented Multi Mushroom Complex, lion’s mane also features antioxidants, polysaccharides, beta glucans and beta-glucoxylan.

Lion’s Mane can support healthy cognitive function.†

Chaga Mushroom

Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) is a mushroom the generally grows on birch trees in colder climates of the Northern Hemisphere. Consumed for centuries in the East, chaga is being recognized in the West for its health benefits, including its ability to fight oxidative stress.†

Cordyceps Mushroom

Cordyceps (Cordyceps sinensis) is one of the world’s oldest “superfoods,” having been used in traditional Chinese health regimens about 5,000 years ago. Some of the first people to discover cordyceps’ benefits were those who observed animals growing strong after eating the wild version of this fungus.

Cordyceps is known for its positive impact on performance, particularly bolstering exercise performance.†

Maitake Mushroom

Known as the “King of Mushrooms” in Japan, the scientific name of maitake—Grifola frondosa—is derived from the common name of fungi found in Italy. It’s a name referring to a mythical beast that is half-lion and half-eagle. The Japanese name maitake means “dance mushroom,” and is based on its shape, which some think looks like a dancing nymph.

But there’s even more goodness in Fermented Multi Mushroom Complex! Ancient Apothecary Fermented Multi Mushroom Complex also contains ashwagandha in the form of Organic Ashwagandha Extract (Root and Leaf).

Often hailed for its stress-relieving effects, Ashwagandha is a superstar adaptogen. The clinically studied ashwagandha ingredient in Fermented Multi Mushroom can:

  • Support a healthy response to physical, emotional and mental stress†
  • Boost energy and reduce fatigue†
  • Enhance focus and mental stamina†
